Mission
The Aster family was developed to perform three distinct missions:
- Ship point defence - Aster 15
- Ship local and area defence - Aster 30
- Ground-based area defence - Aster 30
The ground-based area defence mission is currently performed by the SAMP/T developed by Eurosam. It is operated by the French Air Force and the Italian Army.
With the development of the Aster Block 2/ballistic missile defence (BMD), a variant of the Aster 30 missile, this will add again another distinct area in which Aster will provide defence.
