Famous quotes containing the words ash and/or vale:

    Thoth, Hermes, the stylus,
    the palette, the pen, the quill endure,
    though our books are a floor
    of smouldering ash under our feet.
    Hilda Doolittle (1886–1961)

    Far from the madding crowd’s ignoble strife,
    Their sober wishes never learned to stray;
    Along the cool sequestered vale of life
    They kept the noiseless tenor of their way.
    Thomas Gray (1716–1771)
