Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception - Critical Reception

Critical Reception

The book received generally mixed reviews. Entertainment Weekly noted that the characters were "still a blast", however, the review also said "Colfer seems too dazzled by all the gadgetry and explosives jammed into this tale." Bookstove called it "fabulously written" and "a perfect mixture of wit, humour and world saving antics with a supernatural twist." Disney's "Family Entertainment" did not recommend the book and called it "pretty confusing", though it still retained the strengths of the series as a whole. The School Library Journal wrote that "the prose is clunky", however, it continued to say that the "creativity carry the narrative through the tight spots and impossible situations."

Famous quotes containing the words critical and/or reception:

Good critical writing is measured by the perception and evaluation of the subject; bad critical writing by the necessity of maintaining the professional standing of the critic.
    Raymond Chandler (1888–1959)

To aim to convert a man by miracles is a profanation of the soul. A true conversion, a true Christ, is now, as always, to be made by the reception of beautiful sentiments.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
