The Army Ranger Wing (ARW, Irish: Sciathán Fiannóglach an Airm) is the special forces unit of the Irish Defence Forces.
The ARW trains and operates with many international special operations units worldwide, including the U.S. Army Rangers, French GIGN, German GSG 9, Polish GROM, Swedish SSG, Italian COMSUBIN, Australian SAS, New Zealand SAS, and Canadian JTF2 among others.
The Army Ranger Wing is Ireland's premier hostage rescue unit, and trains closely with the specialised firearms service of An Garda Síochána (known as the Emergency Response Unit or ERU). In any major hostage incident the Ranger Wing could be requested to support the ERU.

Famous quotes containing the words army and/or wing:
“I have been up to see the Congress and they do not seem to be able to do anything except to eat peanuts and chew tobacco, while my army is starving.”
—Robert E. Lee (18071870)
“The sin of my ingratitude even now
Was heavy on me. Thou art so far before
That swiftest wing of recompense is slow
To overtake thee. Would thou hadst less deserved,
That the proportion both of thanks and payment
Might have been mine! Only I have left to say,
More is thy due than more than all can pay.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
