Arizona Air National Guard

Arizona Air National Guard

The Arizona Air National Guard (AZ ANG) is the air force militia of the State of Arizona, United States of America. It is, along with the Arizona Army National Guard, an element of the Arizona National Guard.

As state militia units, the units in the Arizona Air National Guard are not in the normal United States Air Force chain of command. They are under the jurisdiction of the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs unless they are federalized by order of the President of the United States. The Arizona Air National Guard is headquartered at the Joint Force Headquarters in Phoenix, and its commander is currently Major General Hugo E. Salazar.

Famous quotes containing the words arizona, air, national and/or guard:

Desert rains are usually so definitely demarked that the story of the man who washed his hands in the edge of an Arizona thunder shower without wetting his cuffs seems almost credible.
—Administration in the State of Ariz, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

Oh none too soon through the air white and dry
    Will the clear announcer’s voice
Beat like a dove, and you and I

From the heart’s anarch and responsible town
Return by subway-mouth to life again,
    Bearing the morning papers,
    Richard Wilbur (b. 1921)

Public speaking is done in the public tongue, the national or tribal language; and the language of our tribe is the men’s language. Of course women learn it. We’re not dumb. If you can tell Margaret Thatcher from Ronald Reagan, or Indira Gandhi from General Somoza, by anything they say, tell me how. This is a man’s world, so it talks a man’s language.
    Ursula K. Le Guin (b. 1929)

It is rare indeed that people give. Most people guard and keep; they suppose that it is they themselves and what they identify with themselves that they are guarding and keeping, whereas what they are actually guarding and keeping is their system of reality and what they assume themselves to be.
    James Baldwin (1924–1987)
