Career
During the 1930s, Motley was employed by the federal Works Progress Administration to depict scenes from African-American history in a series of murals, some of which can be found at Nichols Middle School in Evanston, Illinois. In the 1950s, he made several visits to Mexico and began painting Mexican life and landscapes.

Famous quotes containing the word career:
“I seemed intent on making it as difficult for myself as possible to pursue my male career goal. I not only procrastinated endlessly, submitting my medical school application at the very last minute, but continued to crave a conventional female role even as I moved ahead with my male pursuits.”
—Margaret S. Mahler (18971985)
