2014 Gubernatorial Race Speculation

Anthony Brown is widely considered to be one of the leading contenders in Maryland's 2014 Gubernatorial race to succeed Martin O'Malley, who is term limited. At a recent speech before the Maryland Association of Counties, a speech usually delivered by the governor, Brown stated that Maryland’s most pressing challenge is the “persistent gaps and disparities” among its diverse communities in health care, education and employment. Brown also acknowledged that he is exploring running for governor in 2014.

Famous quotes containing the words race and/or speculation:

    Ye say they all have passed away,
    That noble race and brave;
    That their light canoes have vanished
    From off the crested wave;
    That, mid the forests where they roamed,
    There rings no hunters’ shout;
    But their name is on your waters,
    Ye may not wash it out.
    Lydia Huntley Sigourney (1791–1865)

    Many expressions in the New Testament come naturally to the lips of all Protestants, and it furnishes the most pregnant and practical texts. There is no harmless dreaming, no wise speculation in it, but everywhere a substratum of good sense. It never reflects, but it repents. There is no poetry in it, we may say, nothing regarded in the light of beauty merely, but moral truth is its object. All mortals are convicted by its conscience.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
