Andrew Toti - Perpetual Motion

Perpetual Motion

Toti worked at a pet project, building a perpetual motion machine. The physical laws of thermodynamics mean such a machine is impossible: if it were possible, it would offer a limitless energy supply.

Toti's machine was both mechanical and electromagnetic. He said he had reached 95% to 97% levels, meaning a power conversion loss of 5% to 3%. He believed his 3% energy loss is the lowest anyone has achieved.

"I still believe it's possible," he said.

Famous quotes containing the words perpetual and/or motion:

His breast was the seat of all those passions which degrade our nature, and disturb our reason. There they raged in a perpetual conflict; but avarice, the meanest of them all, generally triumphed, ruled absolutely, and in many instances, which I forbear to mention, most scandalously.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

It is the fixed that horrifies us, the fixed that assails us with the tremendous force of mindlessness. The fixed is a Mason jar, and we can’t beat it open. ...The fixed is a world without fire--dead flint, dead tinder, and nowhere a spark. It is motion without direction, force without power, the aimless procession of caterpillars round the rim of a vase, and I hate it because at any moment I myself might step to that charmed and glistening thread.
    Annie Dillard (b. 1945)
