Ancient Domains of Mystery, or ADOM, is a roguelike video game by Thomas Biskup first released in 1994. The player's aim is to stop the forces of Chaos that invade the world of Ancardia.
Like most roguelikes, ADOM uses ASCII graphics to represent the game world. It features a wilderness map that connects different types of dungeons. Most dungeons are randomly generated on first entering. Once visited, they — with the exception of the Infinite Dungeon — do not change when re-entered during play.

Famous quotes containing the words ancient, domains and/or mystery:
“I am ... willing to admit that some people might live there for years, or even a lifetime, so protected that they never sense the sweet stench of corruption that is all around themthe keen, thin scent of decay that pervades everything and accuses with a terrible accusation the superficial youthfulness, the abounding undergraduate noise, that fills those ancient buildings.”
—Thomas Merton (19151968)
“I shall be a benefactor if I conquer some realms from the night, if I report to the gazettes anything transpiring about us at that season worthy of their attention,if I can show men that there is some beauty awake while they are asleep,if I add to the domains of poetry.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Give me a mysteryjust a plain and simple onea mystery which is diffidence and silence, a slim little, barefoot mystery: give me a mysteryjust one!”
—Yevgeny Yevtushenko (b. 1933)
