Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) is an advocacy group and taxpayer group whose stated goal is "a system in which taxes are simpler, flatter, more visible, and lower than they are today." ATR claims, "The government's power to control one's life derives from its power to tax. We believe that power should be minimized." Famous quotes containing the words americans, tax and/or reform:
“The Americans ... have invented so wide a range of pithy and hackneyed phrases that they can carry on an amusing and animated conversation without giving a moments reflection to what they are saying and so leave their minds free to consider the more important matters of big business and fornication.”
—W. Somerset Maugham (18741965)
“Parents are used to being made to feel guilty about...their contribution to the population problem, the school tax burden, and declining test scores. They expect to be blamed by teachers and psychologists, if not by police. And they will be blamed by the children themselves. It is hardy a wonder, then, that they withdraw into what used to be called permissiveness but is really neglect.”
—C. John Sommerville (20th century)
“Let us reform our schools, and we shall find little reform needed in our prisons.”
—John Ruskin (18191900)
