American Institute of Philanthropy

The American Institute of Philanthropy (AIP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, created in the United States by Daniel Borochoff in 1992, to provide information about charities' financial efficiency, accountability, governance, and fundraising. Its official website is known as CharityWatch. Charity financial reporting can be inconsistent, unclear, and occasionally unethical or fraudulent, thus the organization acts as an independent clearing house for charitable information.

Famous quotes containing the words american, institute and/or philanthropy:

The American character looks always as if it had just had a rather bad haircut, which gives it, in our eyes at any rate, a greater humanity than the European, which even among its beggars has an all too professional air.
    Mary McCarthy (1912–1989)

Whenever any form of government shall become destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, & to institute new government, laying it’s foundation on such principles & organising it’s powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety & happiness.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

Almost every man we meet requires some civility,—requires to be humored; he has some fame, some talent, some whim of religion or philanthropy in his head that is not to be questioned, and which spoils all conversation with him. But a friend is a sane man who exercises not my ingenuity, but me.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
