American Black Duck

The American Black Duck (Anas rubripes) is a large dabbling duck. American Black Ducks are similar to Mallards in size, and resemble the female Mallard in coloration, although the Black Duck's plumage is darker. It is native to eastern North America and has shown reduction in numbers and increasing hybridization with the more common Mallard as that species has spread with man-made habitat changes.

Famous quotes containing the words american, black and/or duck:

In the American metaphysic, reality is always material reality, hard, resistant, unformed, impenetrable, and unpleasant.
    Lionel Trilling (1905–1975)

We have what I would call educational genocide. I’m concerned about learning totally, but I’m immersed in the disastrous record of how many black kids are going into science. They are very few and far between. I’ve said that when I see more black students in the laboratories than I see on the football field, I’ll be happy.
    Jewel Plummer Cobb (b. 1924)

Here is no eft or mortal snake
But only sluggish duck and drake.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)
