Greek Life
Alfred State College has a long and valued history of fraternities and sororities on campus, starting in 1920 with its first fraternity. Fraternities and Sororities contribute to the campus and community through philanthropic works, charitable contributions, and alumni interest in the college. Pledging is a four week process requiring a minimum of ten hours of library time per pledging week amongst other requirements, hence the common phrase "Four Weeks for Life".
Currently 5 fraternities and 5 sororities are recognized by the college and Greek Senate: Gamma Theta Gamma (ΓΘΓ) fraternity, Kappa Sigma Epsilon (KΣE) fraternity, Pi Rho Zeta (ΠΡΖ) fraternity, Mu Theta (ΜΘ) fraternity, the fraternity Psi Delta Omega (ΨΔΩ) is on probationary status, Pi Nu Epsilon (ΠΝΕ) sorority, Delta Chi Omega (ΔΧΩ) sorority, Alpha Sigma (ΑΣ) sorority, and Psi Sigma Psi (ΨΣΨ) sorority are all fully recognized by the College. Alpha Beta Chi (ABX) sorority can not pledge new members at the current time.
Greek Senate has developed an autonomous Greek Judicial Board which allows for the full self-governance of the Alfred Greek System, adjudicating cases of organizational misconduct. Hazing is not allowable by any organization on campus (enforced by state law), but most especially in any fraternity or sorority. Regardless of recognition status all members of the campus community are expected to abide by college policy and all applicable laws.

Famous quotes containing the words greek and/or life:
“He degraded himself by the vice of drinking, which, together with a great stock of Greek and Latin, he brought away with him from Oxford and retained and practised ever afterwards.”

“O life unlike to ours!
Who fluctuate idly without term or scope,
Of whom each strives, nor knows for what he strives,
And each half lives a hundred different lives;
Who wait like thee, but not, like thee, in hope.”
