Biography
Newport was born in Wolverhampton, in 1970 and grew up in the Midlands area. He is currently living in New York City and is owner of Future Shock recording studio.
Newport founded the alternative noise band Fudge Tunnel in 1989 whilst at art college in Nottingham, and got his start in recording by working closely with producers Colin Richardson and Iain Burgess on Fudge Tunnel recordings, eventually going on to produce and mix the album Creep Diets (Columbia/Earache, 1992) himself .
Newport was also one half of the industrial project Nailbomb (with Max Cavalera of Sepultura), although Newport seems to have never taken that project seriously, feeling that the musical style was limited and disbanded the project following their only performance at the Dynamo Festival, Netherlands in 1995.
He quickly became in demand as Producer/Engineer and after moving to the US in 1995 began a string of projects with artists At The Drive-In (In/Casino/Out, 1997 and Vaya, 1998) and The Mars Volta (Tremulant, 2001), in addition to projects with Knapsack, Samiam and The Melvins. Newport was house engineer for 3 years at San Francisco’s all analog studio, Tiny Telephone, in addition to his freelance production work. While based in San Francisco, Newport sang and played guitar on two albums as part of Theory of Ruin. These records, Counter-Culture Nosebleed and Frontline Poster-Child, were released by Escape Artist Records
In 2008 Newport mixed the Death Cab For Cutie track “Long Division” from their Grammy-nominated album Narrow Stairs. He also mixed tracks from The Loud Wars by So Many Dynamos, which was produced by Death Cab’s Chris Walla. He also works regularly with Tokyo’s POLYSICS, having mixed five of their albums, and engineered and mixed their most recent "Oh No It's Heavy Polysick" (Sony Japan).
In 2009, Newport worked with British folk/punk artist Frank Turner (Poetry of the Deed, Epitaph Records).
In February 2011, Newport worked with Juno Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter Dallas Green, AKA City And Colour. Newport produced City And Colour's "Little Hell" (Vagrant Records) which was also recorded and mixed entirely on analog tape.
Newport recently produced Bloc Party's new album Four (French Kiss Records), recorded in the first half of 2012 in NYC and due for release in August 2012.

Famous quotes containing the word biography:
“Just how difficult it is to write biography can be reckoned by anybody who sits down and considers just how many people know the real truth about his or her love affairs.”
—Rebecca West [Cicily Isabel Fairfield] (18921983)
“In how few words, for instance, the Greeks would have told the story of Abelard and Heloise, making but a sentence of our classical dictionary.... We moderns, on the other hand, collect only the raw materials of biography and history, memoirs to serve for a history, which is but materials to serve for a mythology.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
