Names
It was previously known as the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (Arabic: الجماعة السلفية للدعوة والقتال al-Jamā‘ah as-Salafiyyah lid-Da‘wah wal-Qiṭāl, in French: Groupe Salafiste pour la Prédication et le Combat, GSPC, and also known as the Group for Call and Combat). In 2007, the group changed its name to "al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb" (Qaedat al-Jihad fi Bilad al-Maghrib al-Islami).
