Geography
Agios Ioannis Rentis is located about 6 km W of central Athens and NE of Piraeus. The main streets are Kifissou Avenue (now a superhighway: GR-1/E75), Petrou Ralli Avenue through the north, and Thivon Avenue running through the west. The OSE railway Athens-Piraeus runs in the south.
The area was agricultural and rural, with forests dominating its north, until the 1920s. In the '20s and '30s, urban development in the north and east (part of the Athens Industrial Area) replaced much of the farmlands. Today, much of the municipality is industrialized, with urban residences in the west and an industrial area to the north and east, away from the Cephissus. A forested park area lies in the north.
Agios Ioannis Rentis has schools, lyceums, gymnasia, banks, a train station, a sports centre, cinemas, post offices and squares.
The Olympiakos FC training center is in this area.
