Domestic Adoption
Domestic adoption has, in recent years, been much less common than international adoption in Guatemala. In 2006, during the period of active international adoption, it was estimated that only 5% of adoptees were placed with Guatemalan families, which would be around 250 children. In 2009, 559 children in institutions were declared legally adoptable; of these, 253 were placed with Guatemalan families.

Famous quotes containing the words domestic and/or adoption:
“Men perceive that equating love and domestic work is a trap. They fear that to get involved with housework would send them hurtling into the bottomless pit of self-sacrifice that is womens current caring roles.”
—Debbie Taylor (20th century)
“Frankly, I adore your catchy slogan, Adoption, not Abortion, although no one has been able to figure out, even with expert counseling, how to use adoption as a method of birth control, or at what time of the month it is most effective.”
