Famous quotes containing the word bids:
“What is this flesh I purchased with my pains,
This fallen star my milk sustains,
This love that makes my heart’s blood stop
Or strikes a sudden chill into my bones
And bids my hair stand up?”

“Most of the money given by rich people in “charity” is made up of conscience money, “ransom,” political bribery, and bids for titles.... One buys moral credit by signing a cheque, which is easier than turning a prayer wheel.”

“What comfort have we now?
By heaven, I’ll hate him everlastingly
That bids me be of comfort any more.”
—William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
