Host
Major League Soccer announced on July 9, 2008 that Rio Tinto Stadium, the League's newest soccer-specific venue, would host the 2009 MLS All-Star Game in the summer of 2009. MLS President Mark Abbott joined Real Salt Lake Owner David W. Checketts, Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., and Sandy Mayor Tom Dolan at a press conference at the new Stadium to officially announce the event. This was the first MLS All-Star Game held in Utah.
| “ | We are excited to bring the 2009 MLS All-Star Game to Utah and Major League Soccer's newest world-class venue. Real Salt Lake has a history of hosting first-rate soccer events, and we certainly expect Dave Checketts and his staff to continue this tradition with the All-Star Game. It is a testament to the growth of the League that we are able to host this wonderful event in a soccer-specific stadium for the seventh consecutive year. | ” |

Famous quotes containing the word host:
“Carlyles works, it is true, have not the stereotyped success which we call classic. They are a rich but inexpensive entertainment, at which we are not concerned lest the host has strained or impoverished himself to feed his guests. It is not the most lasting word, nor the loftiest wisdom, but rather the word which comes last.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“The white man regards the universe as a gigantic machine hurtling through time and space to its final destruction: individuals in it are but tiny organisms with private lives that lead to private deaths: personal power, success and fame are the absolute measures of values, the things to live for. This outlook on life divides the universe into a host of individual little entities which cannot help being in constant conflict thereby hastening the approach of the hour of their final destruction.”
—Policy statement, 1944, of the Youth League of the African National Congress. pt. 2, ch. 4, Fatima Meer, Higher than Hope (1988)
“A host is like a general: calamities often reveal his genius.”
—Horace [Quintus Horatius Flaccus] (658 B.C.)
