2008 V8 Supercar Season

The 2008 V8 Supercar season is the twelfth series in which V8Supercars contested the senior Australian touring car series. It is the 49th year of touring car racing in Australia since the first runnings of the Australian Touring Car Championship, known today as the V8 Supercar Championship Series, and the fore-runner of the present day Bathurst 1000, the Armstrong 500.

The season began on 21 February at the Clipsal 500 on the streets of Adelaide and will finish on 7 December at Oran Park Raceway. 2008 features the tenth V8 Supercar Championship Series, consisting of 14 rounds covering all states and the Northern Territory of Australia as well as rounds in New Zealand and Bahrain. It also features a non-championship round supporting the 2008 Australian Grand Prix. It also features the ninth second tier Development Series, this year referred to as the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series, all bar one of the seven rounds were held as a support category for the V8 Supercar Championship Series. For the first time a third tier series was run, known as the Shannons V8 Touring Car National Series. Its four rounds were held at rounds of the Shannons Nationals Motor Racing Championships.

Famous quotes containing the word season:

The season developed and matured. Another year’s installment of flowers, leaves, nightingales, thrushes, finches, and such ephemeral creatures, took up their positions where only a year ago others had stood in their place when these were nothing more than germs and inorganic particles. Rays from the sunrise drew forth the buds and stretched them into long stalks, lifted up sap in noiseless streams, opened petals, and sucked out scents in invisible jets and breathings.
    Thomas Hardy (1840–1928)
