The season started 8 days earlier than the 2006 season, with the first match being between the Blues and the Crusaders at Auckland's Eden Park, the second time in the last two years the Blues had hosted the first match. One match, the Brumbies-Waratahs regional derby in Week 10, was played on a Sunday night.
