2007 Singapore League Cup

The inaugural Singapore League Cup soccer competition was held in 2007, contested by eight of the twelve teams who played in Singapore's S.League. The tournament was held before the start of the S.League season that year. Prior to this tournament, there is another tournament with the same name that was held until in 1997 where the Singapore Armed Forces FC had defeated Geylang United by 1 - 0 in the final. However that old Singapore League Cup was subsequently renamed into present Singapore Cup and evolves to be the major cup competition in Singapore football. In recent years, Singapore Cup has involved invited teams from overseas in addition to teams playing in Singapore's local leagues as well, which is something that this League Cup does not do.

The 2007 competition was sponsored by SingTel, and officially titled the SingTel League Cup. A direct knockout format was used for the competition, with the first round being the quarter-final stage as only 8 out of the 12 S.League teams had chosen to participate this competition.

The winners were Woodlands Wellington FC, who defeated Sengkang Punggol FC 4-0 in the final. A third-place match was also held between the two teams who lost in the semi-finals, and was won by Gombak United FC who defeated Home United FC 9-8 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

Famous quotes containing the words league and/or cup:

Stereotypes fall in the face of humanity. You toodle along, thinking that all gay men wear leather after dark and should never, ever be permitted around a Little League field. And then one day your best friend from college, the one your kids adore, comes out to you.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)

I write mainly for the kindly race of women. I am their sister, and in no way exempt from their sorrowful lot. I have drank [sic] the cup of their limitations to the dregs, and if my experience can help any sad or doubtful woman to outleap her own shadow, and to stand bravely out in the sunshine to meet her destiny, whatever it may be, I shall have done well; I have not written this book in vain.
    Amelia E. Barr (1831–1919)
