Famous quotes containing the word ladder:
“But ‘tis a common proof
That lowliness is young ambition’s ladder,
Whereto the climber-upward turns his face;
But when he once attains the upmost round
He then unto the ladder turns his back,
Looks in the clouds, scorning the base degrees
By which he did ascend.”
—William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
“The only difference between a man and woman climbing the ladder of success is that a woman is expected to put it in the closet when she’s finished with it.”
—Barbara Dale (b. 1940)
“A funny business, a woman’s career. The things you drop on your way up the ladder so you can move faster. You forget you’ll need them again when you get back to being a woman.”
—Joseph L. Mankiewicz (1909–1993)
