The 2004 Masters Tournament was the 68th Masters Tournament. It was held from April 8–11 at Augusta National Golf Club. Phil Mickelson won his first, long awaited major championship with a birdie on the 18th hole to defeat Ernie Els by one stroke. The purse was $6 million and Mickelson won $1.17 million.
