2000 Kansas City Chiefs Season

The 2000 Kansas City Chiefs season was the second and final season led by head coach Gunther Cunningham. Cunningham was fired following a 7–9 record and third place finish in the AFC West. Cunningham was replaced by Dick Vermeil, and Quarterback Elvis Grbac was released at the end of the season. The team played the season without 9 time Pro Bowl Linebacker and team captain Derrick Thomas because of his death on February 9 of the same year.

Famous quotes containing the words kansas, city, chiefs and/or season:

Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.... Now I know we’re not in Kansas.
    Noel Langley (1898–1981)

The city is always recruited from the country. The men in cities who are the centres of energy, the driving-wheels of trade, politics or practical arts, and the women of beauty and genius, are the children or grandchildren of farmers, and are spending the energies which their fathers’ hardy, silent life accumulated in frosty furrows in poverty, necessity and darkness.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

“Hear me,” he said to the white commander. “I am tired. My heart is sick and sad. Our chiefs are dead; the little children are freezing. My people have no blankets, no food. From where the sun stands, I will fight no more forever.”
—For the State of Montana, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
