Season Highlights

• The league transferred from the Cuneta Astrodome to the PhilSports Arena as their main playing venue, after the Cuneta Astrodome was used by rival league MBA as a venue during its opening ceremonies and games; however, just a few weeks after its opening the PBA again played in the Cuneta Astrodome.
• The Tanduay Rhum Masters returned to the league as an expansion team after a 12-year absence.
• During the season, a number of Filipino-foreign players entered the league, thus the league allowing each team to have a direct-hire Filipino-foreigner.
• It was also the season that the PBA's grand opening went head to head against the MBA, The MBA backed by its operator ABS-CBN used its roster of stars and shows to make a grand opening, but PBA who sought the Alliance of GMA Network, mounted the successful opening ceremonies in the tradition of making it memorable with a big bang.
