Famous quotes containing the words draft, selections, draftee, career and/or notes:
“If violence is wrong in America, violence is wrong abroad. If it is wrong to be violent defending black women and black children and black babies and black men, then it is wrong for America to draft us, and make us violent abroad in defense of her. And if it is right for America to draft us, and teach us how to be violent in defense of her, then it is right for you and me to do whatever is necessary to defend our own people right here in this country.”
—Malcolm X (19251965)
“Between ourselves and our real natures we interpose that wax figure of idealizations and selections which we call our character.”
—Walter Lippmann (18891974)
“Why not draft executive and management brains to prepare and produce the equipment the $21-a-month draftee must use and forget this dollar-a-year tommyrot? Would we send an army into the field under a dollar-a-year General who had to be home Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays?”
—Lyndon Baines Johnson (19081973)
“Ive been in the twilight of my career longer than most people have had their career.”
—Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)
“A little black thing among the snow
Crying weep, weep, in notes of woe!
Where are thy father & mother? say?
They are both gone up to the church to pray.”
—William Blake (17571827)
