The 1892 Boston Beaneaters won their second straight and fifth total National League pennant. In the first-ever split season, the Beaneaters finished first in the first half, and three games behind the Cleveland Spiders in the second half. After the season, the two teams played a "World's Championship Series", which the Beaneaters won five games to none (with one tie).
Famous quotes containing the words boston and/or season:
“this planned
Babel of Boston where our money talks”
—Robert Lowell (19171977)
“The theater is a baffling business, and a shockingly wasteful one when you consider that people who have proven their worth, who have appeared in or been responsible for successful plays, who have given outstanding performances, can still, in the full tide of their energy, be forced, through lack of opportunity, to sit idle season after season, their enthusiasm, their morale, their very talent dwindling to slow gray death. Of finances we will not even speak; it is too sad a tale.”
—Ilka Chase (19051978)
