Famous quotes containing the words absorption of, absorption and/or functions:

The great social adventure of America is no longer the conquest of the wilderness but the absorption of fifty different peoples.
    Walter Lippmann (1889–1974)

These philosophers dwell on the inevitability and unchangeableness of laws, on the power of temperament and constitution, the three goon, or qualities, and the circumstances, or birth and affinity. The end is an immense consolation; eternal absorption in Brahma.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

We enhance the logical, bounded, linear functions of the mind. In the East, exercises of this sort are for the purpose of getting in tune with the unconscious—to get rid of boundaries, not to create them.
    Edward T. Hall (b. 1914)
