Relations With His Family
William was regarded by his father with contempt, mainly because of his many affairs with women. In 1901, during his visit to Blenheim Palace, he took a strong liking to Gladys Deacon and gave her a ring which she had to return on his father's insistence. William, on the other hand, became noted for his public criticism of his father's politics. In response, his father found William a wife, Duchess Cecilie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, and ordered him to stay away from the Imperial court in Danzig. After initial interest in his wife, he returned to his previous interest in other women.
During his stay in Danzig he used to regularly play tennis in Zopot. This afforded him a chance to meet many beautiful women, many of them coming from Warsaw to stay at the spa.

Famous quotes containing the words relations and/or family:
“Society does not consist of individuals but expresses the sum of interrelations, the relations within which these individuals stand.”
—Karl Marx (18181883)
“In the capsule biography by which most of the people knew one another, I was understood to be an Air Force pilot whose family was wealthy and lived in the East, and I even added the detail that I had a broken marriage and drank to get over it.... I sometimes believed what I said and tried to take the cure in the very real sun of Desert DOr with its cactus, its mountain, and the bright green foliage of its love and its money.”
—Norman Mailer (b. 1923)
