Non-emergency Municipal Services (3-1-1)

Community Board 2 (CB2) deals with land use and zoning matters, municipal service delivery and community concerns of an area including the West Village. New York City's Community Boards review data collected by the 311 Customer Service Center. 3-1-1 (3-1-1) is a non-emergency telephone number, and New York City releases monthly reports on the number of requests for services to 311.

Even though this 3-1-1 data includes information from areas surrounding the West Village, the monthly 3-1-1 reports serve as a proxy for what people in the West Village are complaining about.

In March 2013 (as of data downloaded on 2 April 2013) there were 72 non-emergency calls per day, up 23.9% sequentially and down 15.1% year-over-year. There was a significant shift in the mix of calls in March 2013 compared to both the prior month and the prior year as the most common calls in April 2013 concerned construction. There were 17 calls per day in March 2013 related to building/construction/heating complaints versus 16 calls per day in the prior year.

A notable new type of call in March 2013 related to an "illegal animal sold".
