Death
Jones was a lifelong smoker. He was once said to have gotten through the average workday on coffee and cigarettes. He was never the picture of health and heavy smoking likely contributed to his developing emphysema. His already thin frame deteriorated, to the point where he used an oxygen tank offstage, and onstage he was confined to a seat behind his drum set. He died at the age of 53, and is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, California.

Famous quotes containing the word death:
“Our treatment of both older people and children reflects the value we place on independence and autonomy. We do our best to make our children independent from birth. We leave them all alone in rooms with the lights out and tell them, Go to sleep by yourselves. And the old people we respect most are the ones who will fight for their independence, who would sooner starve to death than ask for help.”
—Margaret Mead (19011978)
“The day of my birth, my death began its walk. It is walking toward me, without hurrying.”
—Jean Cocteau (18891963)
“For death is not the worst, but when one wants to die and is not able even to have that.”
—Sophocles (497406/5 B.C.)
