Religion In Morocco
Islam is the majority and constitutionally established state religion in Morocco. The King of Morocco claims his legitimacy as a descendant of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
The second-largest religion in the country is Christianity, which had been present before the arrival of Islam. Only a fraction of the former number of Jews has remained in the country, many having moved to Israel. Adherents to the Baha'i Faith have been present in a very small population since the late 1940s, and have faced state persecution for their beliefs.
The Moroccan constitution gives these three religions the freedom to worship and congregation, but discriminates in favour of Islam.

Famous quotes containing the word religion:
“... it was religion that saved me. Our ugly church and parochial school provided me with my only aesthetic outlet, in the words of the Mass and the litanies and the old Latin hymns, in the Easter lilies around the altar, rosaries, ornamented prayer books, votive lamps, holy cards stamped in gold and decorated with flower wreaths and a saints picture.”
—Mary McCarthy (19121989)
