Projective Linear Group - Larger Groups

Larger Groups

The projective linear group is contained within larger groups, notably:

  • Projective semilinear group, PΓL, which allows field automorphisms.
  • Cremona group, of birational automorphisms; any biregular automorphism is linear, so PGL coincides with the group of biregular automorphisms.

Famous quotes containing the words larger and/or groups:

My dwelling was small, and I could hardly entertain an echo in it; but it seemed larger for being a single apartment and remote from neighbors. All the attractions of a house were concentrated in one room; it was kitchen, chamber, parlor, and keeping-room; and whatever satisfaction parent or child, master or servant, derive from living in a house, I enjoyed it all.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Policemen so cherish their status as keepers of the peace and protectors of the public that they have occasionally been known to beat to death those citizens or groups who question that status.
    David Mamet (b. 1947)
