Legacy and Influence
Porter operated the Hot Springs Hotel and Brewery at the southern end of the Salt Lake Valley, in an area known as "Point of the Mountain." The former site of the hotel is now on the grounds of a state prison. A nearby stone marker commemorates the spot.
It was rumored that Rockwell had been a member of the same Masonic lodge in Nauvoo as had Smith and many of the early Mormon leaders. However, the only record of his having ever attended is that he was present for one meeting, and no records indicate his ever having been actually made a member.

Famous quotes containing the words legacy and/or influence:
“What is popularly called fame is nothing but an empty name and a legacy from paganism.”
—Desiderius Erasmus (c. 14661536)
“We cannot spare our children the influence of harmful values by turning off the television any more than we can keep them home forever or revamp the world before they get there. Merely keeping them in the dark is no protection and, in fact, can make them vulnerable and immature.”
—Polly Berrien Berends (20th century)
