The Outstanding Airman Badge is a decoration of the United States Air Force and part of the 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year program jointly run by the US Air Force and Air Force Association.
The 12 Outstanding Airmen wear the Outstanding Airman badge for one year and are permanently awarded the Outstanding Airman ribbon with the bronze service star device. They also serve on the Air Force Enlisted Council for one year.
Famous quotes containing the words outstanding, airman and/or badge:
“The theater is a baffling business, and a shockingly wasteful one when you consider that people who have proven their worth, who have appeared in or been responsible for successful plays, who have given outstanding performances, can still, in the full tide of their energy, be forced, through lack of opportunity, to sit idle season after season, their enthusiasm, their morale, their very talent dwindling to slow gray death. Of finances we will not even speak; it is too sad a tale.”
—Ilka Chase (19051978)
“Take the cylinders out of my kidneys,
The connecting-rod out of my brain,
Take the cam-shaft from out of my backbone,
And Assemble the engine again.”
—Unknown. The Dying Airman (l. 58)
“Repose and cheerfulness are the badge of the gentleman, repose in energy.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
