General Site
The General Site is located at Leslie Street and Sheppard Avenue. It was opened in 1968 by the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (IODE), Missionary Health Institute and Canadian Mothercraft Society. Some 3,000 volunteers collected $3.2 million of the $8.6 million cost of the new hospital.
The hospital underwent an expansion in the 2003 and work is now completed with additional bed spaces.
North York General is a primary multi-care facility (open 24 hours) in the North York area, an Academic community hospital and famous for neo-natal care. After Mount Sinai Hospital, North York General currently performs the second highest number of deliveries in all of Canada. It was also the first hospital in North America to incorporate Integrated Prenatal Screening (IPS) into routine care of pregnant women. It was one of a few Toronto area hospitals that had SARS cases.

Famous quotes containing the words general and/or site:
“No doubt, the short distance to which you can see in the woods, and the general twilight, would at length react on the inhabitants, and make them savages. The lakes also reveal the mountains, and give ample scope and range to our thought.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“That is a pathetic inquiry among travelers and geographers after the site of ancient Troy. It is not near where they think it is. When a thing is decayed and gone, how indistinct must be the place it occupied!”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
