As of the census of 2010, there were 1,149 people, 494 households, and 351 families residing in the city. It should be noted that these numbers do not reflect an accurate population since missionaries, who account for between 150 to 600 additional residents depending on the season of the year, are not counted in census records, as their permanent homes are in other cities. The racial makeup of the city was 97.7% White, 0.6% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.6% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.60% of the population.

There were 494 households out of which 20.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.9% were married couples living together, 7.7% have a female householder with no husband present and 28.9% were non-families. 28.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.70.

Nauvoo's age distribution has 19.9% under the age of 18 and 29.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 51.6 years. The population is 47.5% male and 52.5% female.

The median income for a household in the city was $37,216, and the median income for a family was $56,250. The per capita income for the city was $26,210. About 6.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.5% of those between ages 18 and 64, and 6.3% of those age 65 or over.
