Najran Province

Najran Province

Najran (Arabic: نجران‎ Naǧrān) is a province of Saudi Arabia, located in the south of the country along the border with Yemen. It has an area of 119,000 km². Its capital is Najran. Najran is inhabited by the powerful Yam tribe, who have lived in the region for hundreds of years. The governor of the Najran Province has been Mishaal bin Abdullah since 2009. The former governor was Mishaal bin Saud but he was "relieved" in 2008. This move was closely related to the province's unique characteristics since the majority of people in this province are Ismaili. More specifically, 400,000 strong Shia ‘Ismaili’ reside in Najran Province.

Famous quotes containing the word province:

The dramatic art would appear to be rather a feminine art; it contains in itself all the artifices which belong to the province of woman: the desire to please, facility to express emotions and hide defects, and the faculty of assimilation which is the real essence of woman.
    Sarah Bernhardt (1845–1923)
