Najran Province - Ancient Christianity

Ancient Christianity

Najran is known as an ancient settlement ground for Christians in the Arabian peninsula. In fact, the population has signed the famous Najran Pact in the 7th century with the Prophet Muhammad, promising them fair treatment as subjects (dhimmi) of the newly conquered territories. Even today, it is said that there remain Christian communities in Najran.

Famous quotes containing the words ancient and/or christianity:

A bronzed, lank man! His suit of ancient black,
A famous high top-hat and plain worn shawl
Make him the quaint great figure that men love,
The prairie-lawyer, master of us all.
    Vachel Lindsay (1879–1931)

What’s the greatest enemy of Christianity to-day? Frozen meat. In the past only members of the upper classes were thoroughly sceptical, despairing, negative. Why? Among other reasons, because they were the only people who could afford to eat too much meat. Now there’s cheap Canterbury lamb and Argentine chilled beef. Even the poor can afford to poison themselves into complete scepticism and despair.
    Aldous Huxley (1894–1963)
