Pop Punk
Chicago maintains a thriving pop punk scene. Bands such as Rise Against, The Lawrence Arms, The Squids, and Alkaline Trio are prime examples of "second wave" pop-punk musical acts that hail from Chicago. Smoking Popes, another Chicago-area pop-punk band, maintains a small but loyal following throughout the country. The Fireside Bowl provided a venue for many local acts cutting their teeth, and a unique venue for touring bands. Fall Out Boy, from Naperville, Illinois, has been the most commercially successful band to come from the Chicago area in recent years. Celtic punk rock bands Like The Tossers and Flatfoot 56 are also from Chicago.
Though they can be considered Garage rock, Superchick comes straight out of Chicago.

Famous quotes containing the words pop and/or punk:
“The children [on TV] are too well behaved and are reasonable beyond their years. All the children pop in with exceptional insights. On many of the shows the childrens insights are apt to be unexpectedly philosophical. The lesson seems to be, Listen to little children carefully and you will learn great truths.”
—G. Weinberg. originally quoted in What Is Televisions World of the Single Parent Doing to Your Family? TV Guide (August 1970)
“When theres no future
How can there be sin
Were the flowers in the dustbin
Were the poison in your human machine
Were the future
Your future
God Save the Queen”
—The Sex Pistols, British punk band (1976-1979)
