The foundation of humility is truth. The humble man sees himself as he is. If his depreciation of himself were untrue,... it would not be praiseworthy, and would be a form of hypocrisy, which is one of the evils of Pride. Henry Fairlie (1924–1990)

There exists no politician in India daring enough to attempt to explain to the masses that cows can be eaten.
    Indira Gandhi (1917–1984)

For the salvation of his soul the Muslim digs a well. It would be a fine thing if each of us were to leave behind a school, or a well, or something of the sort, so that life would not pass by and retreat into eternity without a trace.
    Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860–1904)

Half a league, half a league,
    Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
    Rode the six hundred.
    “Forward the Light Brigade!
    Alfred Tennyson (1809–1892)
