Monarchy of Australia - Religious Role

Religious Role

Neither the Queen, the governor-general, or any state governor have any religious role in Australia. There never has been an established church in Australia, either before or since Federation in 1901. Pursuant to the Australian Constitution the Commonwealth may not enact a law establishing or prohibiting the free exercise of religion. This is one of the key differences from the Queen's role in England where she is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England.
