MokaFive is a California-based technology company that provides desktop virtualization solutions. The company offers products and services to clients that have traditionally relied on the Windows operating system. Located in Redwood City, the company has raised $36 million in venture capital funding since its founding in 2005. MokaFive has won several industry awards, including green technology awards from AlwaysOn and a Best in Virtualization Award from Network Products Guide.

MokaFive’s approach is called “client side”, because it runs on a user’s computer, instead of on a server in a data center. Client-side virtualization allows the IT department to manage all of the computers in the organization with one central console. Without this type of virtualization, IT personnel must configure every computer individually.

MokaFive has developed another technology called “Virtual Layers.” Layers are a way of isolating the components of a personal computer’s system, including the operating system, applications installed by the company, applications that have been installed by the user, and the user’s data. Once isolated, the IT department can install an update to the computer’s operating system, and the user’s files will not be affected by the update. MokaFive’s technology works with any virtual machine monitor. It includes features that are required for managing virtual desktops, such as automatic updates of virtual machines, streaming and caching of virtual-machine images, hardware-accelerated 3D graphics support, self-rejuvenation and zero-footprint install when running from a USB drive.

On December 8, 2010, MokaFive announced the release of MokaFive Suite Service Provider Edition. The new package allows service providers to offer IT services to several other companies at the same time.

AVG Anti-Virus is now integrated into the MokaFive Suite to make sure that the user’s computer stays secure and safe from viruses or malware. With the addition of virus protection, MokaFive now provides the only virtual-desktop software that can be used on any computer, online or offline, while keeping it secure—making sure that sensitive corporate information is always kept safe.
