Mixi

mixi, Inc. (ミクシィ, mikushī?) (TYO: 2121) is one of several social networking websites in Japan and was started in 2004. As of May 2008, mixi had over 21.6 million users. The company that operates mixi, (now mixi, Inc., but originally called E-Mercury, Inc.) was founded by Kenji Kasahara in 1999 as a limited liability company and became a Japanese corporation in 2000. The company changed its name to mixi, Inc., in February 2006 to align its name with the social networking service that launched in 2004. It has its headquarters in Shibuya, Tokyo.
