The North American Market
Not all engines were offered in North America. The 1990 Mercedes-Benz SL base model was the 228 hp 300SL version equipped with a 5 speed automatic transmission, but it was the 322 hp 500SL (with a 5.0 L V8 engine) which made the most headlines. For model year 1993, the 600 SL was additionally introduced stateside.
The SL320 replaced the 300SL in the United States in 1994, but the SL280 was not offered. The 6-cylinder SLs were dropped from the US lineup in 1998, leaving just the V8 and V12.

Famous quotes containing the words north, american and/or market:
“Here, the flag snaps in the glare and silence
Of the unbroken ice. I stand here,
The dogs bark, my beard is black, and I stare
At the North Pole. . .
And now what? Why, go back.
Turn as I please, my step is to the south.”
—Randall Jarrell (19141965)
“The German intellect wants the French sprightliness, the fine practical understanding of the English, and the American adventure; but it has a certain probity, which never rests in a superficial performance, but asks steadily, To what end? A German public asks for a controlling sincerity.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“Ae market night,
Tam had got planted unco right,
Fast by an ingle, bleezing finely,
Wi reaming swats that drank divinely;”
—Robert Burns (17591796)
