Mental Space - Application in Real Life

Application in Real Life

The concept of mental space has been applied to the treatment of disabled workers. Workers who are emotionally impaired have been treated by reconstructing their mental spaces. Cognitive overload can be diminished by increasing receptive and integrative capacity. This can be accomplished by splitting the space into abstract and concrete modalities. The concrete modality is then treated as raw material to be molded to fit the aspirations towards attainment of the abstract modality.

Famous quotes containing the words application, real and/or life:

It is known that Whistler when asked how long it took him to paint one of his “nocturnes” answered: “All of my life.” With the same rigor he could have said that all of the centuries that preceded the moment when he painted were necessary. From that correct application of the law of causality it follows that the slightest event presupposes the inconceivable universe and, conversely, that the universe needs even the slightest of events.
    Jorge Luis Borges (1899–1986)

Skill sheets, workbooks, basal reader, flash cards are not enough. To convey meaning you need someone sharing the meaning and flavor of real stories with the student.
    Jim Trelease (20th century)

The symbol of perpetual youth, the grass-blade, like a long green ribbon, streams from the sod into the summer, checked indeed by the frost, but anon pushing on again, lifting its spear of last year’s hay with the fresh life below. It grows as steadily as the rill oozes out of the ground.... So our human life but dies down to its root, and still puts forth its green blade to eternity.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
