Marijuana Party of Canada

The Marijuana Party of Canada (French: Parti Marijuana) is a Canadian federal political party, whose agenda focuses purely on ending the prohibition of cannabis. Apart from this one issue, the party has no other official policies, meaning party candidates are able to express their personal views on all other political issues freely.

Candidates appear on election ballots under the short form "Radical Marijuana" and their status is similar to that of independent candidates. Although governed by the Canada Elections Act, the Marijuana Party of Canada is a "decentralized" party, without by-laws, charter or constitution that govern its operations. Its Electoral District Associations are autonomous units of the party as whole.

Famous quotes containing the words marijuana, party and/or canada:

Is marijuana addictive? Yes, in the sense that most of the really pleasant things in life are worth endlessly repeating.
    Richard Neville (b. 1941)

The real grounds of difference upon important political questions no longer correspond with party lines.... Politics is no longer the topic of this country. Its important questions are settled... Great minds hereafter are to be employed on other matters.... Government no longer has its ancient importance.... The people’s progress, progress of every sort, no longer depends on government. But enough of politics. Henceforth I am out more than ever.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

In Canada an ordinary New England house would be mistaken for the château, and while every village here contains at least several gentlemen or “squires,” there is but one to a seigniory.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
