Schools
All schools are located in the city of Manassas Park.
The district includes two elementary schools. Cougar Elementary School, built in 2001, serves students from Kindergarten through 2nd grade, and Manassas Park Elementary School, built in 2009, serves 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Manassas Park Elementary is a Gold LEED Certified school.
Manassas Park secondary schools include Manassas Park Middle School, which serves 6th-8th grade students, and Manassas Park High School, which serves students in grades 9-12.
All Manassas Park City schools are fully accredited and achieved Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in 2008 and 2009.
Thomas Debolt did serve as Superintendent of Manassas Park City Schools from 1995- November 2010. DeBolt's vision and the history of the Manassas Park school system are captured in the book "The Little School System That Could: Transforming a City School District," by Daniel L. Duke, a professor at the University of Virginia's Curry School of Education.
Now, the Superintendent is Bruce McDade. He has been involved with MPCS for ten years. He was appointed associate superintendent for curriculum and technology in 2006 but started his career with the Manassas Park School system in 2001 as principal of Manassas Park High School. He holds a doctorate in administration and supervision from the University of Virginia. He believes that he needs to be involved in student life. "It's important for me to connect with the students because they're the reason we do what we do," he said. "I've got to talk to them. I've got to be in the classroom to see how they're doing, and I have to interact with the teachers to see what they're doing and how I can help them."
The Manassas Park City Schools are overseen by a five-member school board, which is appointed by the Manassas Park City Council. The current board includes Chair Michael Wine, Vice Chair Brenda K. Foster, and members Rachel Kirkland, Ron Gill, and Patricia Rhodes.
Their mascot is the Cougar, and elementary students are called the "Mini-cougars".
