Majumdar

Majumdar (also Mojumdar, Majumder, Mojumder, Mazumdar, Mozumdar, Mazumder, Mozumder, Majoomdar, Mojoomdar, Majoomder, Mojoomder, Mazoomdar, Mozoomdar, Mazoomder, or Mozoomder) is a Bengali title, now commonly used as a family name by both Muslims and Hindus. It is derived from the Arabic majmū‛a ‘collection’ and the Persian suffix -dār ‘possessor,’ therefore meaning ‘record keeper’ or ‘archivist.’

The Maharashtrian title of Mujumdar is unrelated and evolved independently of its Bengali counterpart.
